Sodexo New Staff Kitchen and Meeting Area

Callidus Design was appointed by Sodexo Remote Sites to develop the electrical design for a new kitchen and seating area which would also be used for small meetings.

The existing kitchen area is not located in the ideal location as staff need to enter the kitchen via the control room. The existing kitchen is also in need of an upgrade. Therefore the decision was taken to relocate the kitchen to provide more space with a seating area which could be used for the staff to consume their food and to hold small meetings. The preferred location for the kitchen and seating area was an existing workshop and storage area which was no longer fully utilised. This also provided better access without the need to enter the control room.

A site survey of the existing services was carried out to determine the necessary downtakings and the scope of work required for the new installation. The design included new socket outlets and fused connection units for the various kitchen appliances as well as sockets for general purposes. A new lighting scheme was designed and the existing fire detection system modified. A new consumer unit fed from the existing main switchboard was specified for the local electrical loads.

The specification and sequence of works was written to ensure that as much preparation and installation works as possible were carried out before any electrical shutdowns were necessary to minimise the power outage period for the building.

The electrical design was checked and approved by BP Sullom Voe before being tendered as part of their site verification procedure.
